The HortiRoad2India mission turned vision into action

From 27 October to 2 November, HortiRoad2India returned to India — not just to talk about possibilities, but to put them into motion. After three years of joint research, design, and pilot projects, this mission marked the start of the implementation phase of our shared blueprint for sustainable and high-quality horticulture in India.

The main goal was clear: to bring the blueprint for high-tech greenhouse farming to the attention of key stakeholders such as government officials, investors, retailers, and growers. And that goal was more than achieved. The blueprint received attention in all of India. Media coverage was extensive, with articles in leading outlets such as The Hindu, Fortune India, Voice of India, Rural Voice, and Business World.

During sessions in New Delhi, Bangalore, and Punjab, Dutch and Indian partners came together to exchange progress, strengthen relationships, and explore the next steps towards implementation. Several ongoing partnerships are moving steadily forward, with new potential collaborations emerging along the way. This growing momentum confirms that the Dutch-developed model — combining technology, education, finance, and local cooperation — truly fits India’s ambitions for sustainable and profitable food production.

The mission also created valuable new links for future cooperation in low- and mid-tech horticultural solutions, including connections with Indian startups and regional partners. These efforts align closely with the ambitions of the Westland region to build international alliances in agri-tech and data-driven horticulture.

Partners expressed strong confidence in the blueprint’s value. HortiRoad2India continues to build a bridge between Dutch horticultural expertise and India’s growing need for sustainable, high-quality food systems — working towards the country’s first fully operational high-tech greenhouse by 2026.
