Let’s Connect: Japan-Netherlands Horticultural Collaboration

On April 9, Dutch Greenhouse Delta (DGD) hosted the April edition of Let’s Connect, a dynamic networking event held at the World Horti Center – the heart of Dutch horticulture. With 55 attendees from across the horticultural sector, the session centered around an important theme: Horticultural Collaboration between Japan and the Netherlands.

The event offered an inspiring afternoon filled with valuable insights, shared experiences, and a clear focus on future opportunities. Speakers and participants explored how the unique context of Japanese agriculture – especially its island geography and focus on food security – opens the door for innovative Dutch horticultural solutions.

Market Insights & Strategic Opportunities

Frederik Vossenaar presented key findings from a recent market study into Japan’s horticultural sector. His insights shed light on areas where Dutch expertise can make a significant impact, particularly as Japan seeks to increase its self-sufficiency in food production.

Looking ahead, Expo 2025 Osaka was highlighted as a pivotal moment for Dutch horticulture. Mirjam Boekestijn, track leader of NL HortiRoad2Osaka, shared details about the roadmap and promotional strategy leading up to the World Expo. Her presentation showcased how the Netherlands is preparing to showcase its horticultural innovation on the global stage.

Klaasjan Lautenbach shared insights from a recent trade mission to Japan, highlighting the growing appetite for collaboration and the mutual benefits of strengthened ties. Additionally, Willeke van der Dussen provided insights into the Netherlands’ official contribution to Expo 2025 through NLExpo2025, emphasizing the importance of long-term engagement and visibility in the Japanese market.
